As it stands, this website was constructed using Wordpress. It uses a few plugins to counter spam, organize posts, and provide OpenID signin. I’ve removed the incredibly annoying autosave functionality, as well as the post revision functionality, and made a few other tweaks to the core code.
Other notes:
- My visual design structure is based loosely on the Mimbo 3 theme.
- On this site, I went a little nuts with the typography. I’m still not crazy about it, but satisfied. Mostly I’m not convinced the serif looks clean enough; it may be too busy. For typography I was inspired by Jon Tan’s site— Jon Tangerine. Have a look. It’s quite lovely and uses CSS to great effect. Also inspiring me were Twisted Intellect and Quipsologies.
- Slider functionality is copyright Erik Arviddson (2002). Released in 2006 under Apache Software License 2.0. I learned about this slider via Chirag Mehta’s Tagline Generator project.
- SimplePie is the foundation for fetching, caching, and displaying my online activities.
- To include and cache Gravatars, I’m using Steve Tucker’s GravatarPS. With some modification, this turned out to be quite easy to implement and allowed for greater control over image sizing and visual design.
- TimThumb supports the auto-resizing of images on the home page. On internal pages, I’m using Shadowbox straight up to provide “click to view bigger” functionality.
That’s it. The rest is all my handiwork, for better or for worse. Future plans for the Data section are likely to involve Codeigniter and move away from Wordpress, at least for that area of the site. More as it happens.
